Description

The largest pixie known to science is the blue emperor, its wingspan reaches a very impressive 30 cm (nearly a foot). Their beautiful iridescent blue wings come in a variety of patterns of white sots and black edges. At a distance they may be confused with the blue morpho butterfly but the blue emperor is nearly three times its size. These natives of Central and South America are graceful and weigh virtually nothing in spite of dwarfing almost all other fey by a good few inches. Sadly, chance observations of this incredibly stunning fairy are all that most people will ever get, their numbers have suffered a dramatic reduction with the culling of the rainforests. Efforts have been made to create sanctuaries for tropical wildlife, the indigenous fey included, but it may be too little too late. Because of its size, the blue emperor needs a large territory to forrage for pollen and fruit and the expanses of land needed to house a viable population are in short supply. It makes one wonder if, at this rate, all fey will become little more than myth.
