A tropical river dragon, physiologically identical to the north American river dragon save for its larger size. Yes, my archivists are on my case again for mentioning this larger subspecies but failing to come up with photographic documentation. Sometimes I think they do this on purpose...

Tropical river dragons are distributed throughout Central and South America, Australia, Indonesia and parts of Africa. They are replaced in Asia by Eastern river dragons, an entirely different species. Their colouration is perfect for hiding on the riverbed, looking like nothing so much as rocks covered in algae with a few sticks poking out. Older dragons are actually covered in algae and even small aquatic plants, furthering their disguise. As with their smaller cousins, their breath weapon is a line of super-heated steam. Although superficially similar to black dragons, they inhabit different ecological niches and thus are rarely confused with one another.
