An Abyssal dragon, a type of water dragon native to this plane. Despite their ominous name, Abyssal actually refers to the lightless depths of the deep ocean (called "Abysses") rather than the infinite plane of evil and chaos bearing the same name. Abyssal dragons are known only from a few individuals, so very little is known about their population or ecology. For creatures their size, they are incredibly flexible and agile, it is likely that they follow the ebb and flow of squid and other creatures that rise from the depths every night, feeding throughout the water column.
Abyssal dragons cannot fly, their wings have been reduced to mostly stationary spines with webbing, the ends of which are tipped with photophores. As well, they have two very small horns on their heads that do not appear to serve any real purpose. These features in mind, it has been proposed that Abyssal dragons are related to the more well known reef dragons, perhaps a smaller species that retreated to the icy depths as the reef dragons grew larger and more vicious.
